The Fagali Airport can be found on the Somoa Island and is one of the only features of the island besides a few housing development and shops. Before it was opened by Polynesian Airlines, the airport was owned and operated by the local government. It was used primarily for military purposes, but was soon closed down because locals complained of the noise and pollution coming from the facility. After it was abandoned for several years, Polynesian Airlines purchased the airport and reopened it to the public, offering both local and international flights. The airport continues to expand its facility to offer even more airlines to travelers worldwide.
The Fagali Airport boasts several top-notch airlines that are all available for booking flights. The only international airline that can be found within the airport is Somoa Air. This airline offers flights to America, Africa and Canada. Some local airlines include Pogo Pogo Air, Polynesian Airlines and South Pacific Airways. Over 250 people work for the Fagali Airport each day, allowing the airport to run efficiently and safely no matter how many flights are booked. In fact, the airport even received a safety award in 2008 from the International Flight Association.
When traveling to or from the Fagali Airport, you’ll notice several in-house features and amenities that are all designed to make travel experience easier and more convenient. These amenities include multiple restrooms, vending machines, cafes, gift shops and a full-service restaurant that is open 24 hours a day. The airport has well over 25,000 flights leave its runways each year and millions of people go through its doors annually. Despite the fact that it is considered to be one of the world’s smallest airports, it is also one of the busiest because of the amount of people who utilize it every day.
