NuoDB and the NewSQL

NuoDB is a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based database company founded in 2008. It opened for business under the name NimbusDB, but changed to the current name in 2011. The company is well known for what is called its patented “elastically scalable database.” Their brand of SQL is so innovative that it is commonly known as NewSQL. In addition, it is unique among typical database companies in that its services can be heightened by adding more servers. These servers are so strong that it can be used virtually anywhere. They are also quick, capable of processing 1 million transactions per second. On January 31 of this year its already considerable services were expanded again with The Community Edition.

NuoDB rose in success quickly and soon became a leader in its industry. In 2014, it was named by Boston Business Journal and Mass High Tech to that year’s list of Innovation All Stars. It is probably not a coincidence that that same year a significant raise of $14.2 was added to the company’s fund. NuoDB as founded by Barry Morris, who served as its CEO for many years. In 2015, he was made executive chairman. His vacated CEO position was filled by Bob Walmsley, formerly the company’s executive vice president.
