Another fact about Milstein which most people may not know is that he served in the Israeli Defence Forces, during the Yom Kippur War that took place in 1971. After his service in the IDF, he enrolled at the Israeli Institute of Technology, where he earned his degree in business and economics. Milstein married Gila Elgrably in 1974, and by the time he moved to the US, the two had two children. After moving to the United States in 1981, Milstein decided to pursue an MBA, and he graduated from the University of Southern California in 1983. It was after he obtained his MBA that he decided to pursue a career in commercial real estate. He started out as a sales agent, and later established his own business.
